The $20000 Trading Challenge – SETUP

Welcome to the $20,000 Trading Challenge, a monthly initiative designed to showcase a disciplined, data-driven trading strategy. Starting with a fixed $20,000 capital allocation each month, we aim to generate consistent returns using clear rules and transparent reporting. This challenge is ideal for active traders looking to apply structured decision-making in volatile markets.

Trading Framework
Instruments Traded

We trade exclusively with UPRO (3× leveraged ETF tracking the S&P 500) and TQQQ (3× leveraged ETF tracking the Nasdaq-100), capitalizing on their high volatility for short-term opportunities.

Our trades are driven by two signals:

  1. The Option Sentiment Score (OSS), a proprietary metric analyzing option chain data.
  2. Money Flow Analysis (MFA) in the S&P500, another proprietary metric analyzing money flow in the cash market.
  • Monitoring: OSS is calculated for UPRO and TQQQ within the first hour of regular market trading (9:30–10:30 AM ET).
  • Buy Signal: An OSS above 80 triggers a market buy order.
  • No Signal: If OSS ≤ 80, no trade is executed that day.
Entry & Exit Rules
  • Entry: Execute a market buy when OSS > 80 is confirmed.
  • Profit Target: Exit at +0.5% above the entry price.
  • Stop Loss: Exit at -1.0% below the entry price (99% of the buy price).
  • Holding Period: Positions may close intraday or be held overnight until the profit target or stop loss is triggered.
Position Sizing

The number of shares is calculated as: Shares = floor(Available Capital/Share Price)

  • Capital adjusts dynamically based on realized profits or losses.
  • Only whole shares are traded to maintain simplicity.

Signal Generation
Every trading day, we monitor the Option Sentiment Score (OSS) for these symbols during the first hour of regular market trading.
• If OSS exceeds 80, we take this as a buy signal.
• If the threshold is not met, no trade is taken for that day.

Entry & Exit Rules
• Entry: Buy at the market once OSS>80 is confirmed.

Profit Target: +0.5% above the entry price.
Stop Loss: –1.0% below the entry price (set at 99% of the buy price).
Holding Period: Positions may close intraday or be carried overnight until either the profit target or stop loss is reached.

Position Sizing
The number of shares is determined by:

Shares = Available Capital / Share Price

Available capital adjusts dynamically as profits and losses accumulate

Risk Management

Each losing trade reduces capital by roughly 1% of the challenge allocation (≈ $200).
We apply a 10% maximum drawdown rule ($2,000). If losses reach this level in a given month, trading is suspended until the next monthly reset.
Only one trade per symbol per day is permitted, preventing overtrading and preserving discipline.

Transparency & Reporting

Monthly Reset: Each calendar month starts with $20,000 in capital.
Trade Updates: After each trade, we publish a result update showing whether the trade closed at the profit target ✅ or the stop loss ❌.
Monthly Recap: At the end of every month, we provide a detailed performance summary, including win/loss statistics, ending balance, and observations.

Purpose

The $20,000 Trading Challenge is not about predicting every market move. It is about following a repeatable, data-driven process rooted in OSS signals, strict risk management, and disciplined execution. By sharing this journey openly, we aim to demonstrate how structured decision-making can be applied to real-world trading.
